San Francisco

In between EJ and I being sick, we didn't get a whole group outing in California. Sean and Louise took Liam to San Francisco zoo. The next day, Sean took Liam and I into San Francisco. Here is Liam in front of the Bay Bridge (not the big red one!):

This is Lombard Street. I took this photo as we drove down it.

Despite being the crookedest street in SF, this is the other end of it:

Here's the big red bridge! Sean and Louise say it's not red, it's "International Orange"; and that was the undercoat colour but they left it that way because people like it. I took this photo as we drove across the Golden Gate Bridge.

At the other end Sean took us to a lookout. Here are Liam and I with the Golden Gate Bridge behind us; and the island down the bottom is Alcatraz.

Here we are

We left Adelaide at 9am on Wednesday and eventually arrived, nearly 19 hours later, in San Francisco at 11am on the same day. We didn't even leave Sydney until 11.30!

We were very early to Adelaide airport but were able to check in our luggage straight away. Then we had breakfast, cleaned our teeth and played in the playroom.

The first flight was delayed because they had to repack the cargo so it was balanced. When we eventually left we could see Dad and Lachlan still in the terminal window.

Despite the delay, we still had plenty of time in Sydney. We collected our suitcases, took them on the train from domestic to international with the boys being very helpful, checked the cases in, got lunch, got a Sydney sticker, and hopped on the next plane for a 13 hour flight. I was 100% sure Liam couldn't sit still for that long and I was 99% wrong! The only trouble he had was when it was time to go to sleep but eventually he did; and EJ slept on both flights but woke me up every five minutes. :o|

During the flight they announced "The mealcart will proceed down the aisle," and EJ looked up and said "Meerkat??". Yes, there's a meerkat proceeding down the aisle of the plane.

Louise met us at SF but I think I was asleep. I showered, we looked around town a bit, I slept while Louise helped the boys decorate biscuits... or cookies since we're in America! Then we met Sean at work for dinner. Apparently they have nose-mining goblins in the garden there, as well as electric cars and a dinosaur stalking flamingos.

And now here we are! I need another nap, but Liam doesn't - it's not bedtime where he comes from...

The Easter Story

Liam’s school has been presenting the Easter story in a series of short plays for a week.

April 2nd - Palm Sunday - presented by Reception and Year 1;
April 3rd - Last Supper - Year 3, and Garden and Arrest, by the other Year 3 class;
April 4th - Trial - Year 4
April 5th - Crucifixion - Year 5
April 10th - Resurrection - Year 2

The first four days were before Easter and the last one, Liam’s year level, was after Easter. I saw bits of the others and they were very well presented and even moving, to the point that the remainder of the 300+ kids got up and returned to class silently at the end of each play (no doubt with some coaching but nonetheless they did it), instead of returning to class on rocket launchers. We weren’t going to school today but as Liam’s play was first thing in the morning we went just for that.

Liam was one of the kids in the front row, curled up as a rock; a very important rock! The rocks danced a couple of times during the play.

We were going to miss school today because:

We leave at 5am tomorrow! And I have a LOT to do today, and even tomorrow at the last minute. So here is my last blog for a little while but I will certainly try to do some while we are away. What happened to the old-fashioned postcards eh? Oh I remember, they got back after I did last time… yay for blogging!

Not dolls!

Today was EJ's last day of kindy! On each student's last day they are presented with a folder of their work and a certificate.

This is Mrs C. When Liam started school he had Mrs P for 4 days per week and Mrs C on Thursdays. EJ was quite involved with Liam's class back then, at the age of two, so Mrs C has known both boys for over two years. It's kind of sad to be moving on! But it means........

After the Easter weekend we are off! I can't wait to see everyone in the USA again!

I also thought I'd take the next picture just because it's pretty.

I found a packet of buttons I'd bought for school craft and EJ went through and picked out all the brand-name ones. Then Liam sorted them into "emeralds, rubies, sapphires, coins, and diamonds and stuff". I didn't want to leave them in my fancy Tupperware container which I use often, but they look so pretty and I don't want to mix them up again!
